In a bid to curb bullying on its social network, Twitter is announcing today a new feature that makes it easier to report threatening tweets to law enforcement. The idea here is to automatically generate a compelling evidence that will be used against anyone who threatens a user on Twitter.

So, how does it work? If a user is harassed, he or she can file a report to Twitter. The company will then send a confirmation of your report and an option to receive a report of the bullying through email. Once you get an email, you can show it to your local authorities. The new feature is Twitter’s latest effort in improving its micro-blogging platform.

The reports will include the tweets and their URL along with a timestamp and username of the abuser. Twitter will also do its part by suspending the accounts of users found guilty of bullying. The company has been lauded for taking concrete steps in protecting its users. Its partners include the National Network to End Domestic Violence, Amnesty International, Cyberbullying Research Center, and the National Crime Prevention Center on Cyberbullying.
