Bing is now the #2 search engine with 20% marketshare behind Google. On the heel of this news, Microsoft and Yahoo announce a new search deal.

The deal that Bing is delivering the search results on Yahoo has worked well for Microsoft in terms of market share. ComScore revealed yesterday their new search engine ranking and Microsoft Bing has for the first time 20%. Google holds the top spot with 64.5% and Yahoo is third with 12.8%. On the heels of that milestone, Microsoft and Yahoo announced that the companies amended their search partnership.

The original agreement was made in 2009. BusinessInsider reveals that the big change is in the way Yahoo can handle advertising on Bing search traffic. Instead of 100% Bing Ads, Yahoo now only has to serve 51%. Yahoo is now free to monetize 49% of the Bing traffic with other advertising solutions including its own, Gemini.

“Our global partnership with Yahoo has benefited our shared customers over the past five years and I look forward to building on what we’ve already accomplished together,” said Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft Corp. “Our partnership with Yahoo is one example of the diverse partnerships we’ll continue to cultivate in order to have the greatest impact for our customers.”

“Over the past few months, Satya and I have worked closely together to establish a revised search agreement that allows us to enhance our user experience and innovate more in our search business,” said Marissa Mayer. “This renewed agreement opens up significant opportunities in our partnership that I’m very excited to explore.”
