Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Starr was the last of the "Fab Four" honored for his solo work.

Ringo Starr has been inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist on Saturday night. The former drummer of famous rock band Beatles received this honor in the 30TH induction ceremony held in Cleveland, Ohio.

Ringo Starr, the 74 years old, singer, songwriter and producer was the last of the four members of Beatles to be recognized and inducted into Hall of Fame for his individual efforts. Other band members were Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison. Beatles, as a band, was ushered into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

On the annual induction ceremony, Starr was introduced and awarded by former band mate Paul McCartney. Together they performed their hit song of 1967 “With A Little Help From My Friends” Starr and Paul McCartney are also the only members of the band that are still alive.

Beatles, the rock band, was originated in Liverpool with the combination of four members. It gained enormous popularity during the 1960s and smashed multiple records over the years. After the split of the band in 1970, members including Ringo Starr started to focus on their solo careers. He released 18 albums and recorded several hit singles including “It Don’t Come Easy”, “You’re Sixteen” and “Back of Boogaloo”. His latest studio album was released earlier this year, in March 2015, BBC reported.

Other inductees of 2015 Hall of Fame included, Bill Weather, Band Green Day, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Steve Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Lou Reed and 5 Royales. Upon the completion of 25 years of the release of the first record, a singer or band is considered eligible for the induction and Green Day was the band inducted in the first year of their eligibility.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2015 ceremony featured performances of many artists including Beck, Dave Grohl, Karen O, Joe Walsh and Zac Brown. Miley Cyrus, Stevie Wonders, Patti Smith and John Mayer also attended the ceremony, doing the honors of the induction. The ceremony is scheduled to be broadcast on HBO May 30th 2015.
