Sam Smith has canceled the remainder of the Australian tour due to a vocal cord hemorrhage. The cancellation had been announced after his first of the two-night performances in Sydney.

The British singer shared this heart-breaking news with Australian fans on Tuesday via Instagram, saying he has been suffering hemorrhage on vocal cord and is unable to continue the tour. Doctors have advised him to take complete result and let the vocal cords heal properly. Otherwise it could turn into a long term problem.

“I am deeply, deeply saddened to tell my Australian fans, I have to cancel my Australian tour,” Sam wrote in the post.

“I have been vocally exhausted for a while now however last night in Sydney I had a small hemorrhage on my vocal chords. The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal chords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue.

Smith also apologized to all the fans who have been eagerly waiting for his concert and have bought tickets to see and hear him live. “I am so sorry to all who have bought tickets. I truly am. This kills me.” The 22-year old singer concluded.

The Grammy award winner singer began his highly anticipated “In the Lonely Hour” tour on Saturday in Brisbane. He made his first Sydney performance at the Hordern Pavilion on Monday and was scheduled to perform again in Sydney on Tuesday at the same venue. His next two gigs were in Melbourne April 30 and Adelaide on May 1. Sam Smith's tour of Australia was scheduled to be concluded in Perth on May 4 before moving to Japan on May 7 for the two-night run in Tokyo.

The new dates of the tour are expected to be announced soon.
