Anthony Geary has finally decided to leave General Hospital after starring as a regular cast member earning him 8 Daytime Emmy Awards and claim to fame for other options in his career.

So Luke Spencer finally says goodbye to Port Charles as this will be actor’s Anthony Geary last month to shoot for the show. The actor recurring the role of Luke Spencer since 1978 is finally ready to say goodbye to the show that he has dedicated more than twenty years of his life. The show in turn has proven him a worthy actor with 8 Daytime Emmy Awards.

The actor has will be shooting the final episodes and will have more screen time in the month to come but that will be the end of him on the show. The ABC Daytime does hope to see him return for a week or so later on for a week if his heart allows him.

The star has had a great run in the third longest running daytime drama in history. He gave an interview to TVInsider highlighting his reasons for leaving the show He said that the show production and cast had been extremely kind to him and he is much obliged to them.

He said that his back surgery last year made him realize that his life won’t last forever and he can’t spend the rest of his life on General Hospital sets He called it poetically unjustified. He said that he decided that he will go to the other part of the world he had created for himself.

He said that he has been an actor for 50 years of his life now. He was nowhere near giving up on acting. He will be returning to his language classes to perfect his Dutch and engage in the local theaters. He is also open to the option of working in European movies.

Anthony Geary said that General Hospital has been a great part of his life and Luke Spencer is more like an alter ego of his than a character he plays. The transition will seem hard but the actors on the show even now are strong enough to take the show forward without him.
