Volcano on Galapagos Islands Erupts after 33 Year Silence

Breaking News: Footage of the Wolf Volcano on Galapagos Islands shows a spectacular eruption. The volcano has not been active in 33 years.

The Wolf Volcano on the Galapagos Island erupted at 1:30am on Monday informed the Parque Nacional Galapagos on Facebook. The only inhabitants that are in danger by the volcano are the pink iguanas. The Galapagos park officials are monitoring the flow of lava, but at this point their is no danger for the tourism to the Galapagos Islands.

The Wolf volcano has a height of 1,707m with a diameter of 5.5 to 6.5 kilometers. The Wolf volcano erupted the first time on record back in 1797. There have been 10 eruptions since then.

The video has been filmed by a crew of an expedition including Bitinia Espinoza, Floreano Nunez and Monica Square. The video shows the volcanic eruption of the wolf during its first hours.

The latest update says that the activity of the Wolf volcano is declining.

The erupting volcano was named after Theodor Wolf a German geologist who studied the Galapagos Islands in the 19th century. There is also a Wolf Island in the north of the Galapagos that is named after the German scientist as well. The Pink Iguna was just spotted the first time in 1986. Scientists declared the pink iguana a distinct species in 2009.
