The petition indicates that Azalea's song "Fancy" did not meet the requirements and her win should be declared invalid

Iggy Alazea is no stranger to controversies. In a very short period of time, her popularity grew to a great extent as well as her problems. Now 24-year old rapper is facing a new problem as thousands of fans seems unhappy with her recent win at 2015 Billboard Music Awards and have signed a petition created by Change.org, claiming that her song “Fancy” did not meet the eligibility requirements and her win for the Top Rap Song should be declared null and void.

“Iggy Azalea’s 2015 Billboard Award for Best Song has proven invalid,” the petition reads. “The eligibility time period for nominations is March 10th 2014, through March 2015. “Fancy” was released on February 17th, 2014, nearly a month before the eligibility starting. This is unfair to the other nominees in these category, especially to “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj, who most likely would’ve won,”

Petition concludes with “Billboard did not follow their own guidelines and should have to recalculate these nominations without “Fancy” as a nominee.”

Iggy Azalea received 11 nominations in this year’s Billboard Music Awards and won three of them Top Streaming Artist, Top Rap Artist and Top Rap Song for “Fancy”, also featuring Charli XCX. The song reached to the No. 1 spot on Billboard Hot 100 chart and remained there for seven consecutive weeks, which is a record itself.

Although no comment has been made by either Billboard or Iggy Azalea yet but a representative from Billboard Music Awards’ production company Dick Clark Production claimed few days ago that song was eligible and meets the required criteria.

According to the publication of International Business Times, Billboard Awards are based on the sales data, streams and chart performance of the song in the months to come, not on its release date and “Fancy” did great in that required time (March 10, 2014 to March 8, 2015). Azalea’s song beat out Big Sean’s IDFWY, Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda and Bobby Shmurda’s Hot Boy for the award.
