Showtime will be launching the Apple TV streaming service for low price and introductory package and become the next television service on Apple to provide the streaming.
HBO Now has been the only channel to have an Apple TV subscription until now for $14.99. There hasn’t been much credit to the other channels with quality shows to create some competition. Other online channels were the ones concerned with news. That means that TV shows required to be watched on channels with cable subscription.

Well, there is one channel less that you would not need cable subscription for anymore. CBS, having launched the channel on Apple TV followed through with the same for its counterpart, Showtime.
The channel will be launched on Apple TV subscribers for a low price of $10.99, which easily undercuts the HBO Now rates. The channel would be compatible to play on all Apple devices including iPod, iPad, INote, Mac and Apple TV.
The channel does not have the same fan following for its shows as HBO Now but with a 30 day trial package, they are hoping to get more and more subscribers to sign up for the service. CBS CEO Les Moonves called it a much thought out scheme financially as well as for the good of the channel as well as for the CBS for it will be reaching beyond borders to tens of millions of viewers.
“Going over-the-top means Showtime will be much more accessible to tens of millions of potential new subscribers,” said Moonves. “Across CBS, we are constantly finding new ways to monetize our programming by capitalizing on opportunities presented by technology. This works best when you have outstanding premium content – like we do at Showtime – and when you have a terrific partner like Apple – which continues to innovate and build upon its loyal customer base.”
“At Showtime, we’re excited to offer consumers the opportunity to subscribe in new ways, by simply having an internet connection,” said Matthew C. Blank, Chairman and CEO, Showtime Networks Inc. “Our intent is to make SHOWTIME available to viewers via every manner possible, giving them an enormous amount of choice in accessing our programming, starting with the season premieres of our award-winning series RAY DONOVAN and MASTERS OF SEX.”
The service will be made available soon while following the same bundle and billing policies as HBO. The launch of the channel is complimentary to the premiere of two of the channel’s shows Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex on July 14th.
By launching another channel through its portal, Apple is becoming the go to country for the TV channels and cut the cord on cable operators. Apple is working on making more collaborations and add more to its set of subscription channels to make Apple TV a more permanent feature in all devices.
“We’re excited to offer Apple customers SHOWTIME’s live channels and extensive on demand library of great TV shows and movies, without a cable or satellite subscription,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV customers will now be able to subscribe to SHOWTIME directly and instantly start viewing their favorite programming with the same simplicity as buying an app.”
Showtime will be launching the service on July 12th so don’t forget to subscribe and enjoy the new shows the network is presenting this summer.
