The currently available Apple Watch apps are a disappointment, but a new analytics report of Apple Watch app store downloads shows impressive download numbers for apps that support Apple Watch.
Apple touted at the Apple Watch launch back in April that there are 4,000 Apple Watch apps. Only problem with those apps is that most of them are not useful on the Apple Watch and better used on the iPhone. It is not the fault of developers, but Apple so far did provide a native Apple Watch SDK. It is coming. Apple has announced watchOS 2 on Monday.
The new SDK for the Apple WatchOS 2 gives developers access to key hardware like the Digital Crown, Taptic Engine, heart rate sensor, accelerometer and microphone. The new software APIs enable audio and video playback and animation, and with the ClockKit framework, developers can represent their data as complications on the watch face.
Sensor Tower has analyzed for I4U News the downloads of Apple Watch enabled apps and the result impressive despite the low value of the currently available Apple Watch apps. According to the data we received from Sensor Tower about 80 million Apple Watch enabled apps have been downloaded between April 24th (Apple Watch Release Date) and June 5th. The top downloaded Apple Watch enabled app is Instagram with 5,790,000 downloads.
