Apple Watch 2 will arrive next year

According to recent reports, Apple Watch 2 will arrive next year with LG being The Sole Display Supplier

It’s a well-known fact that LG is the king of the smartphone display market. And the king has just witnessed new heights of success thanks to the Apple watch. For Q1 2015, LG Display has posted record revenue of over $186 million courtesy of the Apple watch. To keep In perspective, the entire smartwatch market is roughly estimated to be worth $ 204 million.

For those of you not in the know, LG display is the sole manufacturer of P-OLED panels for the Apple watch. This puts LG, for obvious reasons in a very favorable position given the success Apple watch is currently enjoying. And if that’s not enough, it certainly looks like LG might continue to be the sole display supplier of the next generation of Apple watch. Some fresh reports from South Korea revealed that Apple and LG have indeed agreed to go along with the collaboration, which will cover the development phase of the next generation Apple watch.

So, in all respects, it appears like Korean display provider will remain the sole display provider for the Apple watch 2 which is expected to be released in 2016. It appears that the decision to retain LG as its sole display provider wasn’t taken haphazardly as sources in Korea claim that Apple went up to considerable lengths to consider multiple suppliers for its second generation Apple watch, but eventually settled for LG as its exclusive partner. This decision was made after taking into consideration LG’s performance when it came to P-OLED smartwatch display that is currently unmatched in terms of quality and yield.

Such a partnership is bound to bring good returns for Korea’s second largest smartphone maker and might even provide a stable platform for it to mark its own success in Android Wear in the near future.
