The Dalai Lama who is getting on in years, celebrated his 80th birthday onstage at the Glastonbury Festival. Countless fans cheered from the crowds gathered at the event as the patriarch of Tibetan Buddhism sliced the confectionary with a smile on his face.

Innumerable people clapped and shouted from the assembled crowd as the Dalai Lama came onstage at the Glastonbury Festival. The elderly gentleman who is the surviving scion of Tibetan Buddhism went ahead and sliced a cake marking his 80th birthday. The throngs went wild with joy and elation.

The Dalai Lama has shown up for the very first time at such an event. And the multitudes sang a rendition of Happy Birthday to the loving, caring and gentle soul upon Patti Smith’s signal.

He gave a delightful speech later on in which he spoke of how those gathered at the event had no political or governmental links meaning that they were innocent of harboring a hidden agenda of domination or influence like most politicians and dictators.

He emphasized the inculcation of beautiful moral principles in students studying at schools and colleges. Especially the non-adherence to any one religion in the educational course was the gist of his speech.

The Dalai Lama went into a reminiscence of his early life by saying that if he were given the choice of not being the Dalai Lama for a single day, he would gladly exchange his current status for a life of driving farm equipment in China when things were much more normal in his youth.

He said that the Chinese government’s accusation against him of trying to topple the regime via religious revolution was to be expected since they didn’t want him to breathe free. China has opposed the Dalai Lama’s very existence since it considers him and his followers to be a threat to the country.
