Ben Affleck Was Shocked When Asked to Play Batman

He keeps up the image of the playboy. So you have more of a dichotomy which i thought was really fun and a little sad, like the aging playboy, says Ben Affleck

The fictional character of Batman first appeared on comic books in 1939. It made a big screen debut in 1966 with a 20th Century Fox film starring Adam West as Batman. After that Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Michael Keaton and Christian Bale have played Batman, making Ben Affleck only the fifth actor to perform the famous comic book superhero.

But when Affleck was approached for the character by the filmmaker, he was almost shocked.

“My first reaction was, ‘Are you sure? Ben Affleck said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “At the time I was 40, 41, and had just finished Argo, and I felt like ‘This seems like a strange way to get to Batman.’ But Zack (Snyder) convinced me.”

Batman’s secret identity is Bruce Wayne, who is a business magnate and a kind of a flamboyant personality.

“He really keeps up the image of the playboy, actively,” Affleck said. “So you have more of a dichotomy which I thought was really fun, and a little sad, like the aging playboy.”

Another reason of taking up the job was, he wanted to get an experience under his belt so it will become easier for him if he intends to make anything like that in future.

“I thought if I was going to direct a movie like this, which I would like to do at some point, I need to have something of a refresher course of how these movies are done.” Affleck said.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice features two of most famous comic book character together, taking on each other and putting mankind in greater danger than ever before. The principal cast includes Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane alongside Ben Affleck. The film is directed by Zack Synder while the screenplay is written by Chris Terrio (Argo) and David S. Goyer (Man of Steel).

The shooting kicked off in May 2014 and concluded in December 2014. The movie is scheduled to release on March 25, 2016.
