Amazon Prime Day Deals will Not Be Better Than on Black Friday

Amazon Prime Day will have lots of deals, but expect no rock bottom bargains like on Black Friday.

Earlier this week Amazon announced Prime Day, a sales event supposed to be bigger than Black Friday. Amazon Prime Day takes place next week on July 15 in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Amazon. Where did we get stuff before?

Amazon promises more deals than on Black Friday. The only condition to take advantage of the deals is an Amazon Prime membership. Amazon is offering a free 30-day Amazon Prime trial, making this requirement not a barrier.

The Prime Day deals are across dozens of categories including electronics, toys, movies, clothing, patio, lawn and garden, sports and outdoor items and more. Prime members will find deals on items for summer, family road trips, back to school supplies, and everyday essentials. It is not clear how Amazon will make Prime Day bigger than Black Friday. Last year the Amazon Black Friday sale was 8 days long with new deals being released every 10 minutes.

The best Black Friday 2014 deals on Amazon included $79 32-inch LED TV, $119 40-inch LED TV and $3.99 Blu-ray movies. We do not expect Amazon to offer such bargain deals on July 15. No matter what the retailer said in the Prime Day announcement, Black Friday is a different beast. The best Black Friday deals on Amazon have been triggered by competing offers from Walmart, Target and Best Buy. Amazon just matched those creating a buying frenzy on Matching Black Friday doorbuster deals of competitors has been Amazon's Black strategy for the past years.

The Amazon Prime Day has no competition. There will be lots of lightning deals and the best ones will sell out very quickly. We would though be very surprised to find a $79 32-inch TV among the Amazon Prime Day deals. Consumers will have to wait another 140 days according to Black Friday Countdown until Black Friday 2015 to see such deals again.

We will be analyzing the Amazon Prime Day deals as soon as they appear and publish a deal guide as we do each year during the Black Friday sales season.

Prime Day is a global shopping event taking place in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada and Austria.
