Elon Musk says Tesla Event is about Model S

Elon Musk is scheduled to talk to the media today at 2pm ET about Tesla Motors. Now he revealed on Twitter that the call is about the Model S.

Elon Musk has Tesla Motors news to share today as reported earlier. According to a new Tweet from Elon Musk, the mystery Tesla call will be about the Model S. He also announced the SpaceX Falcon 9 explosion update for Monday.

Tesla Motors has invited members of the press to a press-conference by phone starting at 2pm ET, today. Telsa did not reveal any details about the topic of the media event, but CEO Elon Musk will be on the call.

Tesla fans are speculating what the company will announce. Predictions range from Model X details, new software update and Gigafactory news. Whatever Tesla announces today, they got attention. Tesla Motors almost commands the same attention grabbing power as Apple.

Now we know that the mystery Tesla announcement is about the Model S. This means it is likely about the new software update.

The current Model S software version is 6.2 and includes automatic notification of nearby charging locations, trip planning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning and valet mode. The announced Model S software version 7.0 will bring the auto-pilot features.

Autopilot combines a forward looking camera, radar, and 360 degree sonar sensors with real time traffic updates to automatically drive Model S on the open road and in dense stop and go traffic. The Model S will also be able to both detect a parking spot and automatically park itself. Standard equipment safety features are constantly monitoring stop signs, traffic signals and pedestrians, as well as for unintentional lane changes
