The acclaimed cosmologist announced the launch of Breakthrough Listen a $100 million project to find alien life in the universe.

On Monday the acclaimed British physicist announced a $100 million project dedicated to finding alien life in the universe will be launched soon. The project has been named Breakthrough Listen and is backed up by the Silicon Valley Russian entrepreneur Yuri Milner. The project will scan the universe for alien life over duration to 10 years and may also cost more than 143 million euros.

However what makes the project stand out is the fact it will the biggest and most comprehensive search for extra-terrestrial life undertaken ever. The news was announced by Hawking at the Royal Society science academy in London in a launch event.

According to Hawking the universe if infinite and there has to be life other than ourselves there and somewhere intelligent life may be watching us. Hawking also declared right now there is no bigger question and it is time to find out the answer and start the search for life outside of the earth.

The project will employ some of the biggest telescopes in the world to look for any signs of extra-terrestrial life. Signals such as radio spectrum and laser will be searched for far into the universe. Engineers will also be developing massive data processing units to note all the data collected by looking into the farthest corners of the universe.

The project does not constitute if any messages will be sent into the void of the universe, however it has started the debate whether any messages should be sent out into the void at all. Many are arguing if the human race even needs to start contacting outside the earth.
