  • A Certain Population Y Intermingled with People living near the Amazon River

It has been scientifically validated that a certain Population Y may have intermingled with people living near the Amazon River in ancient times.

Many of the indigenous people of the Amazon region in South America may have actually been the descendants of Pacific dwellers. However, it is a great riddle as to how those Pacific populations managed to arrive at the South American continent and interbreed with the local population.

The Pacific population has been termed as Population Y. How the genes got shuffled in the first place is something that has eluded the scientists.

Most of the Native Americans can trace their roots to Eurasia from where a horde migrated back in the Ice Age across the Bering Strait. Other recent migrations have taken place too.

However, the latest research suggests that while Native Americans have skulls that bear an uncanny likeness to Asians, those Indians living in the Brazil region show similarities to Australians.

This is of great significance. The gene analysis shows plenty of clues that validate this claim. The Amazonia share much of their genetic heritage with the South Sea population.

It was quite a surprise to know about this. While previous studies suggest that both North and South American Indians shared a common ancestor, new evidence lends a different angle on the whole shebang.

The genetic game of shuffling and reshuffling is much more complex than it was previously thought to be. The group termed Population Y has been named such since the Y stands for Ypkuera. The exact date in time when Population Y landed on he coast of South America is a mystery of history alright. All we can say with certainty is that it happened.

The DNA unearthed from ancient sources will provide valuable information that needs to be decoded in the future. It is supposed that maybe the populations all originally crossed the Bering Strait that connected what is now Alaska with Russia.

The tracing of these routes via the roots of various people and populations is a very exciting field of discovery. With the world’s entire population having descended from an original horde of hominids in Africa, it seems that the dissemination of this tiny bunch of individuals into the various cultures of the world was a miracle of sorts. It shows that mankind can adapt to any habitat no matter how arid or humid it may be.

The study published in journal Nature.
