A Russian fisherman had a surprising encounter with a giant squid.

A giant squid surprised a Russian fisherman. The enormous squid tried to steal a fish hanging outside of the fishing boat. The whole scene got filmed, making this video a rare footage of a giant squid that is alive.

There have been a few sightings of giant squids that washed a shore dead. The video shows a living giant squid and how it moves through the water.

The fisherman had to use a pole to get the squid off the their catch. It then slowly swam away along the boat.

The giant squid (genus Architeuthis) is usually dwelling in the deep-ocean and not seen on the surface. The Giant squid can grow to a tremendous maximum size at 13 m (43 ft) for females and 10 m (33 ft) for males.

It is not clear yet if the squid in the video is a giant squid or colossal squid. These giant creatures a still a mystery to science and little is known.

The colossal squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni is believed to be the largest squid species in terms of mass. It is estimated to reach a maximum size at 12–14 m (39–46 ft).
