Samsung SE370 is first Monitor with Wireless Charging Station

Samsung unveiled a monitor with integrated wireless charging function for mobile devices.

Samsung unveiled today a computer monitor with integrated wireless charging functionality. Samsung Galaxy S6 owners can charge their phone with the Samsung SE370.

The SE370 monitor works with all mobile devices that use the Qi wireless charging standard.

This is a clever idea and can become a standard solution in the future when wearable devices can be charged wirelessly without contact.

Recently Korean scientists showed off a solution that can charge smartphones wirelessly from up to a 20-inch distance.

The current Qi wireless technology requires contact to work. The SE370 has a circular wireless charging area integrated in the monitor’s stand. Users need to place their device on the stand’s charging area to initiate automatic charging, which is confirmed by an LED light.

“Technology should support, not interfere with, active lifestyles. Our customers increasingly rely on mobile devices to obtain information and interact with others; so by doing away with the clutter on their desks, we are helping them to use their mobile devices in a smarter way,” said Seok-gi Kim, Senior Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through the integration of wireless mobile charging technology, our innovative SE370 monitor dramatically improves efficiency, convenience and connectivity at home and at work – representing another significant milestone in our long history of industry-firsts.”

The Samsung SE370 features a high-performance Plane-to-Line-Switching (PLS) panel. The PLS panel allows users to experience universally-optimized viewing with a 178 degree wide-viewing angle, as well as excellent picture quality with vivid and clear imagery delivered through a brightness of up to 300 cd/m2.

Samsung offers the monitor with a 23.6-inch (S24E370DL) and 27-inch screen size (S27E370DS). Pricing and release date have not been announced yet.
