Elon Musk's Tesla Referral Program includes Free Model X

Tesla introduces a referral program. It is the first such program for Tesla and it has a lot of incentives include a chance to get a free Model X.

Tesla Motors is not advertising and has no dealership network. For the first time the electric car company does some marketing and it is an incredible incentive for owners and new buyers. This initiative could convert up to 73,000 Model S owners into salespeople.

Ordering a new Model S before October 31st using a referral link of a current owner will get $1,000 off the price.

The current owner will get a $1,000 discount for a new car, service center visit or accessory.

Owners can make up to 10 referrals and are awarded on a first to buy basis. New orders must be placed before October 31, 2015.

Tesla does not stop here.

Current owners referring 5 will receive an invitation for the Gigafactory grand opening party.

For 10 referrals owners get the right to buy a fully loaded Founder Series Model X.

The Founder Series Model X priced at the base-level Model X is not available to the public. The savings are roughly a $25,000.

To top things off Tesla gives the first person to make ten referrals a fully loaded Model X for free.

"We’re trying to figure out if we can reduce the cost of selling the car and pass it on to customers," Musk said Wednesday during a conference call with journalists according to Bloomberg. "It’s an experiment with a finite time. It’s worth trying out."

Telsa published the details of the referral program here. Tesla Motors sent out letters to owners that include their personal referral links to share.

This promotion could work really well. The incentives are very enticing. Now the question is how good of a salesman the Tesla Model S owner is.

Elon Musk announced last week big news for the Telsa Model S. There is a new lower Model 7 price, new 90kWh battery pack option and "ludicrous" speed upgrade.
