NVIDIA recalls all Shield Gaming Tablets

NVIDIA today announced a voluntary recall of the SHIELD 8-inch tablets. The battery in these tablets can overheat, posing a fire hazard.

The affected tablets sold between July 2014 and July 2015. There have been two battery models used in the SHIELD tablet. The B01 is save, but the Y01 is the faulty one that can cause a fire.

NVIDIA will replace the faulty tablets.

Affected customers can find out the details about this recall here.

NVIDIA is asking owners of an affected Shield Table to stop using it. Customers should though backup their data before sending the device in for replacement.

It is hard to say how many of these gaming tablets NVIDIA sold.

The 16GB NVIDIA Shield tablet sells for $299, but are sold out on the NVIDIA Store. The company introduce the high performance tablets (Tegra K1 CPU) almost exactly a year ago to date.
