A hitchhiking robot HitchBOT got vandalized in Phildelphia after its a little over two weeks hitchhiking in the US.

Phillies have their camaraderie and love. But when it comes to robots, it is no go. A small robot known as hitchBOT had been hitchhiking through Canada and parts of Europe. When it reached Philadelphia, it got vandalized.

Thus ended its 14 day existence in the US. The damage it sustained was irrepairable. A cross-country ride was what the robot was programmed for. On its own it was static. The robot was dependent for its movements on aid lent by strangers.

The hitchBOT began its trip from Massachusetts. Boston was part of the plan. And the robot even watched a Red Sox game. After two weeks in the United States, the robot got vandalized. This was an outrage.

The robot's skills included linguistic ones. It could carry on conversations with human beings. The creators of the robot wanted to see the end results would be with Artificial Intelligence. The whole project was artistic in its scope. And people got involved in the scheme.

The robot was at a wedding in Germany. It posed for a painting in the Netherlands. Its life was short in the United States after two weeks. All is not lost. The journey will continue albeit with another robot in its place.

"We have no interest in pressing charges or finding the people who vandalized hitchBOT; we wish to remember the good times, and we encourage hitchBOT’s friends and fans to do the same," according to a statement from the hitchBOT team on official website.

The creators said that they felt the pain of the fans of the robot. But they reassured these fans that the matter didn’t end there. The experiment would continue in a different form. The robot had led a carefree and cool life so long as it was on its own. But the moment it fell into the hands of vandals, it was all over within seconds.

The experiment tested the limits of human kindness and love. How the human subjects treated the piece of machinery was the goal of the project. And as was expected at some stage things went wrong. The destruction of the robot in Philadelphia is proof of human beings being cruel.

They won't spare the soulless machines they create. The robot got dismantled. And the creators had difficulty finding it in the first place. This was because its GPS device got destroyed by the vandals. Thus we see the hideous face of mankind who won’t even spare a piece of harmless electronic machinery.
