Asus Aims to become Top 10 Smartphone Vendor in 2016

HTC is in trouble, but another Taiwanese smartphone maker is on the uprise.

There is quite some dynamic in the smartphone market. Huawei is on a dramatic growth and also Asus's sales curve points sharply upwards. Asus CEO Jerry Shen said that the company wants to become one of the Top 10 largest smartphone vendors in 2016.

The goal is to ship 40 million smartphones according to Digitimes.

Asus just announced the ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition with huge 256GB internal storage at an event in Brazil.

According to CTimes, Asus is the 2nd largest Smartphone vendor in Taiwan behind Apple with about 25% market share. Asus projects to ship 17 million smartphones this year.

The company mostly targets emerging markets to spur their growth. Asus has entered the smartphone market just a couple of years ago. 2011 Asus introduced the Padfone. The company has come a long way from this weird tablet with hidden smartphone combo device.
