Apple works on Augmented Reality Device says Analyst

Get ready for yet another new Apple iDevice! Apple is working on an augmented reality device according to analyst Gene Munster.

Apple is working on an augmented reality device says Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster according to a Business Insider report. This is kind of obvious as Apple bought German augmented reality company Metaio in May. Munster spotted more evidence that there is a bigger effort underway.

Besides Metaio, Apple bought motion tracking maker PrimeSense in 2013. More recently Apple hired an Audio engineer from the Microsoft HoloLens project.

Every large consumer electronics company is currently developing VR and augmented reality solutions. 2016 could be break-through year for virtual reality with the release of the Oculus Rift and the Microsoft HoloLens.

Where Apple will fit in remains to be seen. It could be a companion device for the iPhone or a home entertainment system that works with the Apple TV. It is safe to say that it will not be revealed until the end of 2016.

The concrete next Apple product releases are the iPhone 6S and the new Apple TV.

Apple will hold a press-conference on September 9 to unveil the next generation iPhone and Apple TV.
