Have you ever had a night where all you did was toss and turn without ever really getting any rest? The inventors at Samsung had far too many of these nights and wanted to get to the bottom of how to solve them - so they created a new device that will help users not only fall asleep and stay asleep, but will help improve the quality of the sleep that they get.

According to the Irish Times, the device, which is called the SleepSense, uses a sensor and a an app on your phone to analyze your sleeping habits, determine that quality of the sleep you currently get, and then give you recommendations on how you can get even better sleep. The sensor goes under your mattress and tracks your breathing rates and heart rate, and it also logs the amount of times you roll around or flail in your sleep. Then, the device communicates (wirelessly) with the app on your phone to calculate your sleep score. You can then download the report, which tells you how to get better sleep.

The company, along with Harvard Medical School Professor Dr. Christos Mantzoros worked on the app, adding in the sleeping tips which also include lifestyle, nutrition, and exercise analysis. Samsung also has a great deal of smart home appliances, which can then be connected to the device. For example, you can sync it with your air conditioning unit so that you always stay at the ideal temperature, with the TV so that it automatically shuts off when you need it to, or even to your lights so that they shut off. The app can also manually do any of these things, so you won't have to look around for your remote or get up and break your sleep.

All in all, the app will help you in parts of your life that can wake you or interrupt your sleep. It will likely also offer a "gentle" wake option.

The device was announced ahead of the opening of the IFA consumer electronics exhibition in Berlin, which opens on September 9th.
