The creation of a magnetic tunnel of sorts joining two spatial dimensions was accomplished by scientists recently.

They are called wormholes. And they are basically tunnels in the cosmic scheme of things that link up two different regions. These wondrous entities are a pet subject of theoretical physics.

Sci-fi works such as Star Trek or Stargate are full of them. Such wormholes are not a possibility at present. There are too many gravitational forces involved to make that piece of sci-fi a reality just yet.

Nevertheless, several advancements in mankind’s knowledge have allowed a drawing board model of wormholes to emerge. In fact, the phenomenon has even been reproduced in the lab by scientists in Barcelona.

The magnetic wormhole connects two regions of space. Meta-stuff was employed in the construction of the wormhole. In also involved monopoles or magnets with a single pole. Such entities do not naturally exist in Nature.

The resultant function was such that magnetic fields seemed to travel from one place to another without an intervening medium. This is a marvelous and brilliant find. It shows that science is truly capable of anything.

The wormhole comprises of a sphere that consists of several layers. These are made of ferromagnetic materials and superconductors. The magnetic field is supposed to substitute for a gravitational field.

A year back a magnetic fiber was also built by these researchers. It could transport a magnetic signal from one end of the spectrum to the other. The applications of this experiment are many.

Only time will tell what sort of practical stuff this magnetic arrangement will be useful for. Until then the best the scientists and experts can do is continue to tinker away at reality and try to make things that are the very epitome of fantasy.

Wormholes have always been at the forefront of science fiction works. The phrase “Beam me up, Scotty!” comes to mind when we think of wormholes. They are a form of teleportation.

Although at an atomic level teleportation may be possible, at the level of the human body it is still a moot point. To be able to transport a human being from one end of the universe to another without an intervening medium sounds too good to be true.

It is a dream of mankind like flying is. What was impossible once upon a time is possible now. And the same goes for the present scenario vis-à-vis the future.
