Apple Store is Down despite Not Existing Anymore

The Apple Store is down ahead of the September 9 event.

At around 4am PDT the Apple Store was down for updates. The new Apple web site actually has killed the Apple Store, but it still can go down. As explored earlier, the question was how and if Apple is still shutting down the Apple Store ahead of today's event.

The "We'll be back" screen appears when clicking a buy button on any of the Apple product pages.

Apple relaunched early in August. The redesigned site has assimilated the Apple Store functionality and consumers can buy directly from the product pages.

The company is still referring to the Apple Store in the message: "We're busy updating the Apple Store for you and will be back soon."

What products Apple will be offering in the updated Apple Store today are likely the new iPad mini 4. The iPhone 6S, Apple TV 4 and iPad Pro are expected to go on sale later.

Why Apple is still shutting down the Apple Shop globally for events is unclear. There is no real technical barrier. Other e-commerce shops make a point to be always online to not miss a sales opportunity. Apple does not care about that.

Tim Cook will take the stage at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium for the Apple September 9 keynote at 10am PDT. The Apple Store is expected be back online 90 minutes later.
