Europe’s Galileo Satellites Ready for Launch
  • Europe’s Galileo satellites ready for launch!

The 9th and 10th Galileo satellites have reached their launch pads.

The Galileo satellites will be launched on Friday. The satellites are the 9th and 10th in line of the Galileo satellites. The satellites have reached their launch pads and are in position for the launch on Friday.

The satellites have been placed at the vertical Soyuz launcher. A Soyuz rocket will launch the Galileo-9 and -10 at 02:08 GMT on the 11th of September. The Galileo satellites first arrived in the French Guiana on the 24th of July.

The launch will take place from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana, according to ESA. The satellites were seen by human eyes for the last time the previous week. The satellites made their first appearance already attached to their carrier on the Fregat upper stage.

The halves of the satellites protective launchers were closed around them. The closing concluded when a Galileo logo was finally embossed on the capsule. The logo was placed on the side of the sealed fairing.

The encapsulation marks the completion of the satellites. The ‘upper composite’ was completed. The Galileo satellites are now attached with the dispenser and the Fregat stage. The three components will now travel into space together.

The first three stages of the Soyuz bearing the Galileo satellites have been assembled horizontally. The assembly took place in the traditional Russian fashion. The launcher plus payload is now complete and waiting for the Launch Readiness Review. The Launch Readiness Review will take place before Friday morning.

Two more satellites are scheduled to be launched into space from Europe in this year. One of the satellites is under testing at the site in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. While the other is complete and waiting for shipping to Kourou in October.
