Steven Spielberg finds female lead for ‘Ready Player One’ in the form of Olivia Cooke.

Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow are behind Spielberg’s next movie. The movie is an adaptation of the best-selling sci-fi novel by Ernie Cline. Finally the female lead for the movie has been selected and it is Olivia Cooke.

The actress has starred in Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Cooke is currently in negotiations for the role. The story is set in a virtual world called Oasis. Here a teenage finds himself competing in a treasure hunt against ruthless foes.

Spielberg has been busy finding both the male and female leads for the movie. The hunt still continues for the male lead. Cooke was selected after tests that included Elle Fanning and Lola Kirke, reported THR.

If Cooke reaches a deal she will play the teen’s love interest and competitor. Warner Bro. had no comment about the development. Spielberg is producing with Donald De Line, Dan Farah and Kristie Macosko Krieger.

If Cooke gets this role, it will be a huge breakthrough for Cooke. Cooke is a rising talent working mostly in the indie world. She was acknowledged after Dying Girl, an indie that won the Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Cooke also plays Emma Decody in A&E's Bates Motel.

Even though the movie wasn’t a hit that the studio hoped for, it did lift Cooke’s career. Cooke’s name is now also on the shortlist for one of the Star Wars movies.
