  • Building Consensus on a Ban on Sex Machines

Many people in advanced western industrial societies are building up consensus on a ban on sex machines. Sex with robots is meaningless and absurd and not the real thing.

A whole segment of society has turned against what they deem as dehumanizing to human beings. Sex with robotic dolls has been said to be a waste of time and a remnant of Dadaism in the social setup. Real human sex and love are beautiful. But to actually perform intercourse with a machine is the most freaky and frown-worthy thing possible.

The journey of sex dolls began with inflatable rubber dolls that could be used by soldiers while on tour of duty. Later on, the industry evolved to the point where almost life-like dolls with the capacity to give genuine pleasure were developed.

Now, finally as a parting shot, AI is being incorporated into the sex dolls. The result is that heights of sophistication have been reached. The dolls actually cost more than a girlfriend or undergoing a marriage ceremony.

That is because they are better than the real thing. If you were to ask the sex toy industry personnel, they would tell you that it is a requirement of society.

Ethicists and those concerned with human values say that such an extreme of surrealistic artificiality has its price. The trend is disturbing indeed.

"Sex robots seem to be a growing focus in the robotics industry and the models that they draw on - how they will look, what roles they would play - are very disturbing indeed," Dr Richardson, a robot ethicist at De Montfort University in Leicester, told the BBC.

The fact that this very act of having sex with a female robot demeans womankind as a whole is reason enough to curtail this ugly practice.

It probably feels like rape and does not spread such a healthy message to the individual citizens in a society. To fixate the relationship to a physical, even a mechanical, level is to degrade sex and love beyond recognition.

"We think that the creation of such robots will contribute to detrimental relationships between men and women, adults and children, men and men and women and women," she said.

The experts may be right on this one. They say that such circumstances where human beings are having sex with robots will only go on to influence human relationships in a detrimental manner. A campaign against sex robots has been launched.

The pleasure bond between men and women as well as all familial piety and family feeling will vanish. What will become of real human beings with their flesh and blood when cold rational machines take over even their most basic functions such as sex and intimacy.

The gender gap would only be widened thanks to this strategy of selling sex robots in the marketplace. The objectification of sex as an act of pure pleasure minus the feelings of romance and love may even lead to a society of zombies who are hooked on to their sex machines instead of being in love with real life females.

The world’s first sex robot named Roxxxy may be just the beginning. A Brave New World of technological titration awaits us if we are not careful.
