Sharp LV-85001 is First 8K TV on Sale

Sharp announces that it will ship the world's first 8K TV.

Sharp announced that it will sell the world's first 8K TV starting October 30th. The Sharp LV-85001 is an 85-inch monster with 8K Super High Definition screen. 8K means that the new Sharp TV has 16 times the resolution of a full HD TV.

HD versus 4K versus 8K

This new Sharp TV that is ahead of its time is built around an IGZO LCD screen with a resolution of 7,680x4,320 pixels and a frame rate of up to 120Hz. The new 8K Sharp TV also supports HDR (High Dynamic Range).

The LV-85001 is equipped with a proprietary LED backlight system that employs a new phosphor, and achieves a coverage of 78% of the next generation color standard ITU-R BT.2020.

Sharp aims to sell the 85-inch Sharp LV-85001 TV to video production and broadcasting companies. The display can be setup as a horizontal or vertical display.

The Japanese consumer electronics company will show off the LV-85001 at the CEATEC Japan on October 7th.

Japan aims to broadcast commercial TV programming with 4K and 8K starting in 2020.
