Switching from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 6S is Quantum Leap

How was an iPhone 3GS even usable? Do to a mishap, I had to use a 2009 iPhone 3GS for several weeks before getting a new iPhone 6S. The difference is mind blowing.

Losing your phone is a nightmare. It happened to me several weeks ago in London. I attended a wedding and on the trip home things got blurry and I woke up without my iPhone 5. Find my iPhone and the well organized London Lost Property Office did not turn it up. As the launch of the iPhone 6S was just weeks away, I charged up an old iPhone 3GS I had still lying around.

I did not take into account that was once a top of the line smartphone is now nothing more as a feature phone. The only thing that still worked well was voice calls and messages. And yes, listening to music still worked too - surprisingly.

Surfing the web and running apps was painfully slow. The iPhone 3GS launched in 2009. Over the past six years the world around the 3GS has evolved in a way that it cannot be used anymore.

One intersting observation was that not a single person gave me the looks using the iPhone 3GS. It apparently still looks up to date. A flip phone would have raised attention, I am sure.

Switching on the iPhone 6S immediately makes clear that this is how an iPhone should react. Everything is almost instant. Surfing the web is a breeze and running apps is not a waiting game.

Using old gadgets just shows how far technology has come, even if it does not always feel that way. The upgrades each year do not always feel like big steps. Looking at what happened over a time span of six years is demonstrating this in an incredible way. Old gadgets are almost becoming unusable in today's world.

On a side note, I should have bought the iPhone 6S Plus. I hesitated because I was using the iPhone 5 for so long and the iPhone 6/6S model has already a larger screen. I just fnd myself still zooming in almost all the time reading text. It is clear for me that I will get an iPhone 7 Plus next year.
