Sony has officially announced that the price of its PlayStation 4 in the US has been reduced to $349.99, signifying a cut of $50 from the initial price tag.
And this new price tallies with Microsoft’s Xbox One console.

Sony had earlier cut the price of the console in Japan last month during the Tokyo Games Show, and everyone had been looking forward to a price reduction in other parts of the world. It has now happened in the UK and is expected to reach other parts of the world before the end of this year.

The PS4 will be hitting two years in the market this November; and its price cut corresponds to the price cut that happened with the PS3 when it also clocked two years.

Microsoft’s Xbox One has been permanently dropped to $349.99 in June. And Sony’s price cut to its PS4 is also a permanent price reduction to $349.99. Later this week in Canada, Sony will also be reducing the prices of its standard 500GB console from $449.99 CAD (about $345) to $429.99 CAD.

“Our goal at PlayStation has always been to offer the best place to play at a compelling value to gamers,” said Shawn Layden, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America.

“We’re continuing to deliver on that commitment with this new price for PS4, making the console even more accessible to a broader audience this holiday. With highly anticipated games like Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Star Wars Battlefront launching soon and blockbuster exclusives like Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End on the horizon, there has never been a better time to join the PS4 community,” CEO Layden added.

Market analysts believe PS4 takes the lead over Xbox One, and Sony might hope for more sales by its price reduction and the launch of its 1TB model during the holiday season. The price of the basic console package has also been dropped, and Sony also reduced the price of some game bundles that will be launched soon.

Here is a list of the deals that will be available and the dates they will launch:

• Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection PS4 Bundle (500GB HDD) -- $349.99 (Oct. 9)
• Limited Edition Call of Duty: Black Ops III PS4 Bundle (1TB HDD) -- $429.99 (Nov. 6)
