GameStop follows Staples and announces to keep stores closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Is Black Friday 2015 going back to the roots? Another large retailer announces to keep its stores closed on Thanksgiving Day. GameStop announced today to not open its retail locations on Thanksgiving Day. The GameStop Black Friday 2015 sale will begin at 5am on the actual Black Friday, November 27.

Earlier this month Staples announced to keep its stores closed on Thanksgiving Day. GameStop says that they take a stand. Last year GameStop opened stores at midnight for Black Friday in 4,000 stores. It is not such a big change for GameStop to keep its stores closed on Thanksgiving Day. Staples in contrast opened last year at 6pm on Thanksgiving Day.

The big question is if the big Black Friday stores Walmart, Target and Best Buy will follow. These stores are the most popular for Black Friday shoppers, and their doorbuster deals are tempting enough to skip the traditional turkey dinner.

The GameStop Black Friday 2015 Sale will begin in stores at 5 a.m. local time on Black Friday. To accommodate its customers for being closed on Thanksgiving Day, GameStop will be hosting sales before, during and after Thanksgiving Day.

“We believe strongly that our customers and associates should have the opportunity to spend the Thanksgiving holiday relaxing with family and friends, and not worrying with the stress of where to find the best shopping deals. We know this is in stark contrast to what many other retailers are doing, but we are taking a stance to protect family time during this important holiday,” said Mike Buskey, executive vice president and president of U.S. Stores.

GameStop teases better deals for Black Friday 2015 than last year.

GameStop’s Technology Brands: Spring Mobile, Simply Mac and its Cricket Wireless stores, and the new ThinkGeek retail store will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

This year the Black Friday ads started to leak early. The Half Price Books Black Friday 2015 Ad already leaked on October 2. This feeds the hope of Black Friday shoppers that more Black Friday 2015 ads will be released or leaked early. We have seen though early leaks of ads and then long weeks of no new ads surfacing.
