Today is Columbus Day, but it is too controversial for retailers to associate a sale with it.

Today is Columbus Day 2015. It is a federal holiday and depending which state you live in, certain businesses, banks and government services are closed. This Holiday is the most controversial of all. The story of Columbus discovering America has been glorified for a long time. In the past couple of years, because of the reality of what happened to the indigenous people, more communities support and host Indigenous Peoples Day today as well.

The controversy around the holiday has put off retailers to market Columbus Day sales. There are only a few that mention the holiday on their site.

A message on Twitter brings it to the point: "Serious question: When a store has a #ColumbusDay sale, does that mean go in and take whatever you want?", posted by Hip Hop artist Kwame Rose.

There are Columbus Day 2015 sales guides, but they mostly list sales that are just offered today. Retailers like Best Buy, Walmart and Amazon do not feature specific Columbus Day sales.

When searching Columbus Day on Walmart and Amazon you find only the 2008 Columbus Day movie staring Val Kilmer. The movie tells fittingly the story of a thief. After the heist of his life, a thief hides out in a city park as he plans to strike a deal and unload the stolen goods.

For deal hunters the wait is anyway over soon. In about three weeks the first early Black Friday 2015 sales will begin.
