2016 Toyota Prius Gets Advanced Technologies

Additional details on all the technological aspects of the 2016 Prius were published today by Toyota.

Toyota has revealed all the details on the 2016 Prius. In a press release all the technological advances of the Prius were listed. The 2016 Prius was previously introduced last month in Las Vegas.

According to the press release, the new Prius is built using the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). The new Prius as a result is powered by a gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain. The Prius has a 1.8-liter VVT-i gasoline-burning four-cylinder engine.

Additionally the Prius also has a compact electric motor, along with an HD battery pack. The Prius boosts a performance of 97 horsepower at 5,200 rpm. The torque of the Prius is at 3,600 rpm. The electric motor of the Prius is rated at 71 hp.

The Prius also has a dual cooling system. The dual cooling system is responsible for reducing the flow of coolant to enable faster warm up of the engine during cold weather.

The thermal efficiency of the new Prius is at 40 percent. The high number of thermal efficiency allows the Prius to use energy from fuel more efficiently.

The standard Prius will feature a nickel-metal hybrid battery pack. The Prius Eco will come with a lithium-ion battery pack. This is the first time a lithium battery will be used in the Prius.

The battery will be located in the rear seats. The location will provide more free space in the trunk. The new Prius will make a significant advance in active and preventive safety measures with the available Toyota Safety Sense P package that includes a Pre-collision System with Pedestrian Detection.
