Toyota Goes Back to the Future with Mirai
  • Toyota Mirai launched amid Back to the Future themed event!

The hydrogen powered car was launched in a film studio decorated as the Hill Valley Courthouse and its famous clock.

Toyota just launched the hydrogen powered car Mirai. The launch of the futuristic car was a tribute to a vintage futuristic film trilogy. The Mirai was launched in an event celebrating the 30th anniversary of the film Back to the Future.

For fans of the film the launch event may have seemed familiar. As the film studio where the event was taking place had been transformed into the Hill Valley Courthouse and its clock tower.

The courthouse was decorated with numerous lights to celebrate the double event. Toyota also handed out ceremonial keys to the very first Mirai owners. About 300 customers were handed the keys at the event.

“A piece of the future is now a reality with the Toyota Mirai,” Lloyd said. “Compared to some other technologies predicted in the film, like rehydrated pizza or self-tying shoes, this technology has the real potential to change the world.”

Bill Fay is the head of the Toyota division in the US. According to Fay the owners of the new car are the real pioneers of Mirai and thanks to them the future is a reality. The event was placed on the same day when the date appeared in the 1985 film Back to the Future.

“This moment celebrated the intersection between the U.S. arrival of the Mirai and the 30th anniversary of an iconic film,” said Bill Fay, Toyota division group vice president and general manager.

“We were thrilled to mark the occasion with a video featuring the film’s original stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, reminding our first Mirai owners that they will be driving a future we could only dream of 30 years ago.”

The first owners of the Mirai seemed very enthusiastic about the car. One customer who is also an environmental consultant called the event terrific and described the Mirai as beautiful. The customers believe the Mirai will be a quiet and clean car.

Since the advent of the hydrogen car more hydrogen fuel stations are opening in California. The Mirai uses hydrogen fuel cells to make electricity to power the car. The fuel type is more efficient than gasoline. Water vapours are the only emissions. The vehicles also provide a long range of up to 312 miles. The Mirai has a price tag of $58,250.
