J.K. Rowling reveals that the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set to take place in the 19 years later period rather than being a prequel to the book series.

The news of a play about Harry Potter was enough to turn millions of Potter fans to their Potter alerts. The Potterheads were hopeful to receive any news about the new play that Rowling had co-written with playwright Jack Thorne.

The play is to be directed by John Tiffany and features over 30 actors. Rowling said on her Twitter that the idea behind the paly and the people working on it convinced her that it should be performed on stage. It is set to premiere on London’s West End in 2016.

As soon as the play and its title were announced, many assumed that the ‘Cursed Child’ reference was that to Harry’s life before he received his Hogwarts letter.

There had been hints about Harry’s life with the Dursleys all over the series but there was no definitive pattern. Potterheads anticipated that the play would infact be focusing on a younger Harry as the Cursed Child. The speculations were on a high rise all summer.

J.K. Rowling has broken her silence about the nature of the play and cleared some doubts. It was revealed that the play is the eighth story which takes place nineteen years later. The revelation follows the late-night debut of the key art, which features a despondent, shaggy-haired boy uncomfortably curled inside a straw snitch.

Rowling’s new Potter project picks up 19 years after the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The brief plot description provided a glimpse of clarification about what we can expect from Thorne’s new play.

The plot included the details as; It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

So the plot indicates that Harry in the play is the adult we saw waving off his two sons to Hogwarts at Platform Nine and Three Quarter. The story is a two part play where the present of Harry’s adult professional and family life is challenged by his past and the past.

The past that also overshadows Albus’s, his son’s, life. Albus finds it difficult to live up to the expectations of his father’s legacy that is upon him.

Preview performances for both parts officially begin on June 7, with July 30 marking the world premiere opening night. A weekly ticket lottery will be held, although there is likely a slim chance that J.K. Rowling will rap before each drawing.
