Disney Studios are famous for animated series such as The Lion King. The studio technicians employ multigrid systems for simulating clothing in the visual images that appear on screen.

The generation of images of clothing and fabrics in animated movies is a task in itself. While on the one hand a dose of realism is necessary, on the other hand, this procedure requires great computing skills that are backbreaking in their complexity. Experts at Disney Studios have started using a multigrid approach which adds a dimension of reality to the whole ensemble.

The multigrid system is a macro-level series of number-crunching simulations that work their magic on screen. A lot of input goes into the whole shebang before you see the end result on television. The process is one of smoothed aggregation.

Images of the characters as they run on screen can be speeded up with the look of realism remaining intact. The difference was phenomenal. As much as six to eight times the currents speeds have been achieved via this methodology. The more complex the scene is the more perfectly the method works.

Thus any details in the fabrics worn by the characters will be shown in all their finesse and intricacy. This is an advantage but it requires considerable effort on the part of the technicians. The entire heuristic is mathematical in nature and it is very mind boggling in its totality.

Just understanding its nuts and bolts is something an ordinary layperson cannot wrap his head around. By solving the large scale problems finally the little things can be managed too.

This is the basic rigmarole involved in this stratagem. In the past, such efforts at multigrid systems have taken place too. However, every time some hitches or glitches arose in the scheme. But now finally we have a firm grasp of the computer technology.

The issue that was at hand was the stretching and changes in the fabric. All fabrics show very strange and complex behavior when the wearers move in every direction possible. The forces acting on the fibers due to physical movement are multifarious in their nature.

This pattern is very difficult to achieve in visual form even in an on-screen sense. Yet it is not impossible since the possibilities opened up by modern technology are virtually infinite. In fact, the past 30 years have seen more progress than the past 3000 years.

Smoothed aggregation causes a great deal of flexibility to appear on the screen as far as fabrics are concerned. Thus clothing does not look artificial but realistic in its shape and mechanics.
