The recall was issued due to a cam-shift failure and will affect more than 91,000 vehicles in the US.

Volkswagen has issued a voluntary recall for its 92k models. The 92k models for the year 2015-2016 are involved in the recall. The recalled vehicles have a rear camshaft lobe that can shear off. More than 91,000 vehicles will be affected as a result of the recall in US alone.

All the vehicles with the company number EA888 1.8 and 2.0-liter turbocharged engines are being recalled. Some of the models involved in the recall are the 2015-2016 Jetta are 2015-2016 Beetle.

The 2015-2016 Beetle Convertible will also be recalled. Other models include the 2015-2016 Golf SportWagen and the 2015-2016 Passat. Similarly the 2015-2016 Golf and the 2015-2016 GTI will also be recalled.

The problem with the vehicles is that the camshaft lobe can break off the brake vacuum pump. The breakage can cause the loss of power assistance and reduce engine performance.

The defect can also lead to a possible crash of the car. No injuries have been reported due to the defect. The engines of the vehicles to be recalled were developed at the VW Silao factory.

Documents were submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The documents detail VW is not aware of the cause of the failure.

A fix will not be ready until March 2016. VW will notify all the owners with the problem on the 22nd of December and another letter will be sent later for repair. VW dealers will replace the camshaft free of cost.
