Johansson will play Zoe Quinn from the memoir ‘Crash Override: How To Save The Internet From Itself’.

Game designer Zoe Quinn will publish her memoir in 2016. The memoir is titled ‘Crash Override: How To Save The Internet From Itself’. The memoir is the retelling of the whole Gamergate fiasco from Quinn’s point of view. Even though the book is not out yet the story is a very hot topic.

Many studios had been involved in a bidding war for the book's screen rights. Pascal Pictures ultimately won the rights. Now Deadline claims Scarlett Johansson will play the character of Zoe Quinn from the book. Johansson is the keenest choice for the Gamergate film adaptation.

In case you live under a rock, Gamergate was the biggest anti-females in games internet campaign ever. The scandal was all about a misogynist lynch-mob to keep women out of videogames. The movement rose from 4Chan, Twitter and Reddit as smear campaigns and threats against Quinn.

It all started when Quinn developed the game Depression Quest. Quinn’s ex-boyfriend wrote a negative blog about her and accused her of sleeping around for good reviews. The blog went viral and the internet trolls thrived on it.

The whole Gamergate jumble came into existence and targeted Quinn. Other notable targets included feminist critic Anita Sarkeesian and game developer Brianna Wu. All the targets were understandably female.

The threats got so bad Quinn had to leave her home. Quinn’s memoir is an inside look at gaming and nerd culture. The book also shows how Quinn fought with the whole Gamergate fiasco. The memoir ‘Crash Override’ will be published by next autumn.
