Belly Fat Can Kill You Even at Normal Weight --- Researchers have found that a beer belly is worse than having a fat bottom. At least when it comes to health matters, this is a fact that cannot be denied.

If you have a jelly belly (like most males of the species who are unfit) and a BMI that is close to the borderline than you need to start worrying. But if you have a pear-shaped figure (as most women possess) and are slightly overweight, then you can take it easy.

This is the paradox of the world of health. It is a strange fact but it is true. And woe to the men who are apple-shaped. The stand a fair chance of all sorts of degenerative diseases of the viscera.

Whatever your BMI, if you are top-heavy than you need to take care and exercise precaution. Death from CV disease was on the top of the list for those who had overextended abs. Stress and high cortisol levels may lie behind the chubby belly.

Even at a BMI of above 30, those who had pear-shaped bodies were saved from certain death. Apparently they had greater chances of surviving into old age. That in itself explains why women outlive men.

The findings of this study published today in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

This is quite a finding in the history of internal medicine. For one thing, it dismantles the simplistic notion that being overweight alone causes a range of health issues. It appears such is not the case.

If BMI and weight were alone the indicators of disease, then Arnold Schwarzenneger would be in deep trouble. But he is the epitome of glowing health. The ratio of fat to muscle counts in the analysis as well.

It is not so much weight as fat depositions that determine the health status of the individual. If these fat depositions lie on the hips then well and good. If they exist on the waist and belly like the proverbial spare tire of middle age then beware!

Obesity is the issue here. The more you are shaped like Fat Albert, the more your chances of dying earlier. If you have a figure like Kim Kardashian with all the fat on the buttocks, then you are in the safety zone.

That pesky apple-shape could easily lead to ailments such as diabetes, cancer and heart attack as well as other cardiovascular diseases. Thus even if you are otherwise having a normal weight but your stomach is larger than normal then you have to take steps to reduce that puppy pooch.
