Daniel Fleetwood, who gained notoriety a few weeks ago when his dying wish to see the latest Star Wars movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has died. He was only 32.

His wife Ashley announced the sad news early this morning on her Facebook page: “Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end. He is now one with God and with the force. He passed in his sleep and in peace." The post came accompanied by a photo of the two.

Fleetwood, who had been a fan of Star Wars since he was young, was fighting spindle cell sarcoma, a connective tissue cancer. When he found out that he wasn't going to live until The Force Awakens was released on December 18, 2015, he set out on a campaign to see it early. The hashtag #ForceForDaniel trended several times and caught the attention of celebrities and the stars of the movie.

Last Thursday, the pair announced that Disney did allow Daniel to see an unedited version of the film and had a phone conversation with the director of the movie, J.J. Abrams.
