Science is saying that it is virtually impossible to distinguish a male from a female brain.

Several scientists tried their best to differentiate male and female brains but they failed desperately at the difficult task. They couldn’t read the brain scans and all their questions were in vain.

There was simply no criterion by means of which they could tell the two genders apart. It was a very small minority of people who had either purely male or female stereotypical brains.

Thus this study proves that even though there are slight differences between brains based upon sex typing, in fact the brains do not fall into two sub-types. And neither for that matter is there a spectrum that runs the gamut from male to female. The fact of the matter is that the majority of males and females lie somewhere between the two extremes.

Thus how can you differentiate them based upon sexuality? It is an infinitely difficult task alright. Scientists looked at MRI scans of more than 1400 individuals from all age groups. They included American, German, Chinese and Australian locals.

Some regions in the brains were indeed found that served to differentiate the sexes. However, when seen as a part of the larger picture, these results simply did not tally. To tell the difference was almost impossible by any standard. And the more the study progressed, the more the confusion between the sexes grew.

Almost 23% and 53% of the scans had a male-end and a female-end score. Only 8% showed a purely male and female pattern. It’s clear that there are some differences, but they are not so large as to be of kind. Rather they are of degree only.

Besides this, the differences between male and female brains may be more or less cultural rather than biological in origin. Spatial sense is one such marker where the sexes tend to differ. Men and women were studied in a university setting.

The goal of the research was the varying thinking styles of the sexes. Among the factors that were explored may be included: risk-taking, doing household chores, game participation, seeing exciting images and putting on makeup.

These are some of the most macho male or delicate female characteristics that you can think of on a daily basis. But believe it or not, even here the scientists were unable to find a clear-cut point where the males and females could be told apart.

Therefore all male chauvinists ought to simmer down since the feminists seem to have won! The differences (if any) are only in the details and on the surface everything merges into everything else.

This study was published on Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
