  • NBC's The Wiz Live! Cast excited and preparing for the live event

A huge star cast is excited to present the latest spin on the classic tale The Wonderful Wizard of Oz as the premiere date inches closer.

The story is the same but with a little twist. Featuring as what has now become a seasonal franchise, the cast of The Wiz Live! follows the Sound of Music Live! and Peter Pan Live! from the previous two years.

Director by the Tony winner Kenny Leon, and co-produced by Cirque Du Soleil, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz gets a brand new rendition with The Wiz Live! Fatima Robinson will be taking over the choreography with Cirque’s acrobatic dancers while Harvey Mason Jr. is taking over the music.

Broadway veteran Stephen Oremus is writing a new song, ‘We Got It’. As well as the four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein contributed new material to William F. Brown's original book.

The cast is excited about doing the live segment. Queen Latifah who will be playing The Wiz always wished that she would get to play one of the main roles and now she is the green adorned Wizard herself.

The segment will feature Shanice Williams as the coveted Dorothy. According to the producers, featuring Dorothy was an attempt at making the plot more ‘emotional’.

The cast also features Queen Latifah, Uzo Adoba, Mary J. Blige, Amber Riley, David Allan Grier, Ne-Yo and Elijah Kelley. The cast iss rehearsing for the live event soon to hit the NBC network. the last year’s event of Peter Pan Live generated a lot of social media attention and this year, the star cast is excited for the segment to do well.
