  • Fox Studios clarifies rumors about a rape scene between Leonardo DiCaprio and the bear

The Studios assured the audience that there was no such scene in the movie and was rather a defensive act on the bear’s part rather than an offensive one.

It shocked a few, surprised many to see Leonardo DiCaprio getting terribly mauled by a bear in the trailer of his new movie, The Revenant. The short clip features DiCaprio preparing to take a shot with his gun when he turns around to see a bear coming towards him and then gets thrown around and attacked by the bear.

Of all the things that could have been assumed by the scene, a rumor started to go around. According to the rumor, Leo gets raped by the said bear. The bear attack has been used in the film’s marketing campaign so when it became a threatening point, the studio had to interrupt.

A spokesperson for Fox recently informed the media that there is no such scene in the movie. He elaborated that anyone who has seen the movie would be able to tell us that the bear featured in the scene is a female. The female bear attacks Hugh Glass (Leo’s character) because she thinks he is a danger to her cubs. Hence there is no rape scene with the bear involved in it.

“As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass because she feels he might be threatening her cubs,” a Fox spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly. “There is clearly no rape scene with a bear.”

The bear named Judy in the movie was nominated for Outstanding Achievement, Character Animation in a Live Action Production. She is competing against Indominus Rex from Jurassic World, The Hulk from Avengers: Age of Ultron and Azog and Smaug from The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in the category.

The Revenant is the story of the 19th century explorer Hugh Glass. The explorer trekked 200 miles to get to civilization and seek vengeance against his contemporaries who murdered his son and left him for dead.

The film has been directed by the Oscar winning director, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and stars Domhnall Glesson, Tom Hardy and Will Poulter with Leonardo DiCaprio.
