Apple Sells 25-Hour Smart Battery Case for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6

The Smart Battery Case is designed by Apple—a milestone for the technology giant.

We all want more battery lives on our phones. But creating a smartphone battery that can last for days is a tricky puzzle that phone manufacturers have been trying to solve. Battery cases provide a temporary solution, extending the power of mobile devices for hours until they drain up and require recharging.

Apple has just released a Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 that, according to the company, increases talk time to 25 hours. The same battery case will give iPhone owners an extra 18 hours of Internet browsing via an LTE network. It's an impressive claim, although we have yet to test the accessory.

iPhone 6 owners can now order the Smart Battery Case on Apple's official website. There are two colors available—charcoal grey and white. The case costs $99 in the U.S. and £79.00 in the U.K. The case looks impressive. It has a silky finish, and there's a soft microfiber lining on the inside that helps protect the iPhone. It also has a silicone exterior, which is nice.

The Smart Battery Case is designed by Apple—a milestone for the technology giant. Apple typically sells thirty-party battery cases from Mophie and other manufacturers. By creating its own battery case, Apple is telling accessory makers that it can build its own accessories. Can we expect more accessories from Apple in the future? Only time will tell.
