Golden Globes 2016 Nominations Reveal Some Surprising Picks and Snubs

Don't Miss: This How to find Fingerlings in Stock

The Golden Globe nominees were announced with a lot of snubs that no one was expecting.

The Golden Globes nominations for the year 2016 came on the back of the Screen Actor Guild Awards nominations. The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards nominees were announced this morning in 25 categories which included categories from 14 in film and 11 television shows.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association made some surprising nominations this year in which it left out many actors that most people felt deserved the nomination. Meanwhile, there were also nominated contenders that came as a surprise to everyone.

The television world once again saw some clear snubs that no one can fathom. The American, despite being critics favorite, failed to make it to the nominees.

Tina Fey’s brain child The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt also didn’t make it. It is a great year though for African American women in TV. Taraji P. Henson, Uzo Aduba and Viola Davis were both nominated for their roles.

Jon Hamm was nominated for Mad Men and he might win this Globe like the Emmy he managed to score this year. Rami Malik also managed to receive a nomination for his role in Mr. Robot.

The surprising nominations came when two actors from the same movie have been nominated in the same category. That includes Cate Blanchette and Rooney Mara for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture and Steve Carell and Christian Bale in Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture category for The Big Short.

Best friends Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence were both nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy category for their roles in Trainwreck and Joy. Amy has declared that their friendship is over as they are now fierce competitors for the award. They still remain close as sisters though, she added.

The actors’ nominations this year were a mixed emotional ride. Sylvester Stallone has been nominated in the supporting actor category for his role in ‘Creed’.

He was a definite shoo-in and a fan favorite. Tom Hardy was left out from the category for his role in The Revenant. Meanwhile the movie itself and lead Leonardo DiCaprio earned a nomination in their respective categories.

The ‘Spotlight’ however, despite receiving nominations in other categories, disappointed a lot in not nominating any of the cast. Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams, all were left out.

Johnny Depp was also left out despite being the pivot of the movie Black Mass. Will Smith and Idris Elba were the only African American actors to be included in the nominees.

The actress who managed to receive nominees in both the mediums,TV and Movies, was Lily Tomlin. Idris Elba also managed to receive nomination in both with his roles in Luther and Beasts of No Nation. Mad Max also received multiple nomination including best Director and Movie.

So while you wrap your heads around the snubs and picks for the next year’s Golden Globes, don’t forget to check out all the nominees given below and keep your fingers crossed for your favorites even if they were no nominated.
