  • Google gave away free Star Wars cardboard headsets!

Google offered four types of Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise which was grabbed online immediately.

To promote the latest Star Wars movie Google offered an exclusive deal to fans yesterday. Google was offering Star Wars: The Force Awakens Google Cardboard headset. The exclusive offer was available on the official Google stores.

The merchandise was absolutely free and free means zero charges along with free shipping. The cardboard headsets were available on the online Google store.

The cardboard headsets came in four different versions. The versions were BB-8, a Stormtrooper, Kylo Ren, or R2-D2. The Star Wars themed Google Cardboard VR devices are virtual reality viewers for your smartphones.

All visitors had to do was check out the headsets and they were theirs. However the offer was only viable to customers in the United States. The number of giveaways by Google was not given out and the tech giant may have provided them by the thousands.

The first batch of the limited edition cardboard headsets showed immediate shipping dates. It means the headsets will be delivered before Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters.

The later batches were slated for a delivery date of 15th of December, 2015. The free giveaway move is an effective marketing strategy for both the film and Google. This is because Google has been urging the visitors to sign up for email reminders about similar future promotions.

It comes as no surprise the giveaway did not last for long. Considering the fan base of Star Wars the cardboard headsets were grabbed within a matter of time, The Verge reported.

The online Google store shows all four of the Cardboard headsets are sold out. Some visitors are claiming they have also grabbed the headsets by repeatedly refreshing the page.
