Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to break box office records upon its Thursday night opening.

J.J. Abrams’ movie began its debut on Thursday across North America. The opening is expected to gross $50 million to $55 million, according to THR. This record could be further broken if the amount reaches $60 million.

Raking in so much money must be pleasurable indeed. Before this, it was the Harry Potter Series which earned $43.5 million. As for the Dark Knight Rises, it earned a gross amount that was $30.6 million. Twilight Saga pulled in a total of $30.4 million.

The director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens sure has some surprises up his sleeve. The fans and audience will have to see the dramatic film to witness what the storyline is all about.

As the saying goes, the proof of the pudding lies in the eating. Most of the people in the audience were men. And more than half the audience was over the age of 25. 64% was between 18 and 34 years of age.

As the weekend is traversed, this episode of Star Wars is expected to reach even more people. More than 4000 theaters will be featuring this exciting and memorable movie.

The Star Wars narrative revolves around a scavenger and a stormtrooper who wind up in the same boat. And they are in for an adventure of a lifetime. Lupita Nyong’o is in it and so is Harrison Ford.

Also Carrie Fisher stars in the series. Already word is out that this film franchise could earn in excess of $180 million to $220 million. This is a whole lot of money.

Some are even surmising that it will trump this summer’s Jurassic World. This movie is all set to break all previous box office records. The question is not “will it?” but “by how much?”…

The Hobbit is expected to gross some $84.6 million. December is not slated to have very many competing big releases. 2009’s Avatar and 1997’s Titanic were other all-time greats that shook the movie scene.

Cinemas got filled to bursting point for these unique films. Movies come and movies go. But some of them leave such an indelible impact on the psyche of the masses that they simply cannot be erased from the collective consciousness.

In the past it was movies such as Gone with the Wind and Casablanca not to mention Citizen Kane. Today it is movies such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
