Beatlemania is coming to music streaming services this Christmas, says report.
The Beatles, widely regarded as the most influential rock band in history, is finally coming to music streaming services, according to Billboard. Sources with knowledge of the negotiations say that the iconic songs of John, Paul, Ringo, and George will begin playing on streaming services on Thursday, December 24.
What's not clear, however, are the names of the streaming services. Could it be Spotify? Or, Apple Music, perhaps? Spotify, Apple, Deezer, and other streaming services have yet to comment on the report.
One source said that Apple Records, the record label founded by the Beatles, held negotiations for a six-month exclusive contract with a popular streaming service in 2014. Unfortunately, the talks failed.
The source added that Rob Wells, a former digital executive for Universal Music Group, restarted the discussions in January. A deal was reportedly signed in September, sealing Beatlemania on music streaming services.
The Beatles has been slow to adopting technology. Billboard notes that it took the band six years to debut on iTunes, and 25 years since its breakup to release an Anthology. The Beatles released its first CD in 1987, but the band remastered their songs 22 years later. During its debut on iTunes, the band sold over 450,000 albums and 2 million individual songs.
